Dal Tadka (Spiced Lentils)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup toor dal (pigeon peas)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 green chili, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp oil
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Cook Dal: Wash and cook toor dal in a pressure cooker with 2 cups water until soft.
- Prepare Tadka: Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. When they splutter, add onions and cook until golden.
- Add Aromatics: Add ginger-garlic paste and green chili, sauté for a minute.
- Tomatoes and Spices: Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
- Combine Dal: Add the cooked dal to the pan. Stir well and cook for 10 minutes. Adjust consistency with water if needed.
- Finish: Add garam masala and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Garnish: Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with rice or bread.
